About Malutar & Our Teas

Malutar brings together deep Indian tea heritage and a modern, design-led approach to everyday tea.

Our teas are crafted with premium Indian tea leaves, including orthodox Darjeeling tea leaves across our Classics, Fusions, and Botanicals collections, and a bold Assam CTC and Darjeeling orthodox leaf blend in our CTC line. Each blend is made to feel elevated, expressive, and easy to enjoy — whether you prefer a classic breakfast cup, a fragrant green tea, or a modern fruit and botanical infusion.

We use premium, biodegradable round and pyramid tea bags to give the leaves more room to open while keeping the convenience of a regular tea bag. The result is a fuller, more aromatic cup with the ease of everyday brewing.

Our Classics, Fusions, and Botanicals collections are made with pure, orthodox Darjeeling tea leaves.

Our CTC line is made with a blend of Assam CTC and Darjeeling orthodox leaf. This gives the teas a stronger, bolder character that works especially well for breakfast teas and milk-friendly chai-style cups.

While Darjeeling is central to Malutar's identity, not every Malutar tea is made only with Darjeeling tea. We are careful about this distinction because we want our sourcing to be clear, ethical, accurate, and transparent.

CTC and orthodox refer to two different ways of processing tea.

CTC teas are generally stronger, bolder, and brisker. They are often well suited to milk, sweetener, and traditional chai-style preparation.

Orthodox teas are processed in a way that better preserves the character of the leaf. They are typically more aromatic, nuanced, and expressive, which makes them ideal for teas that are best enjoyed plain or lightly sweetened.

At Malutar, our CTC line uses an Assam CTC and Darjeeling orthodox leaf blend for strength and body, while our Classics, Fusions, and Botanicals collections use orthodox Darjeeling tea leaves for a more refined cup.

Our orthodox Darjeeling tea line is being prepared for certification before launch, including USDA Organic / NOP, India Organic / NPOP, Darjeeling GI, and Non-GMO certification.

Because certification approvals are still in progress, final certification details will be confirmed on our packaging and website once complete.

Our CTC line is not currently certified organic.

No. Malutar teas do not contain added sugar or sweeteners.

Some blends may have a naturally sweet impression from fruit, floral, spice, or botanical notes, but the teas themselves are unsweetened. You can enjoy them plain or add honey, sugar, or your preferred sweetener to taste.

Malutar's flavored teas are developed to deliver expressive, modern flavor profiles while remaining aligned with our organic positioning.

Where flavoring is used, our aim is to use organic-compliant natural flavoring suitable for certified organic products.

Yes. Malutar teas are made with black tea and green tea leaves, which naturally contain caffeine.

Caffeine levels vary depending on the tea type, leaf style, water temperature, steeping time, and preparation method. We do not currently publish exact caffeine amounts per serving.

As a general guide, black teas are usually fuller and stronger, while green teas are generally lighter. Please check each product page for the tea base used in that blend.

Brewing & Serving

For Malutar black teas, steep 1 tea bag in 6 fl oz (180 ml) water at 200–210°F (93–99°C) for 3–5 minutes.

For Malutar green teas, steep 1 tea bag in 6 fl oz (180 ml) water at 175–185°F (79–85°C) for 2–4 minutes.

For CTC teas, follow the same instructions except in 8 fl oz (240 ml) water.

We recommend using fresh, filtered water for all our teas while also avoiding boiling water for green teas, as cooler water helps create a smoother, more balanced cup.

For best results, follow the brew guide listed on each product page.

Yes. Malutar teas are brewed with 6 fl oz (180 ml) water to create a richer, more concentrated cup. If you prefer a lighter or larger cup, brew as directed first, then top up with hot water to taste.

This gives you better control over strength without under-brewing the tea.

Yes. Malutar teas can and should be enjoyed your way.

Our CTC teas and Masala Chai blends work especially well with milk and sweetener. Many of our orthodox black teas can also take a small splash of milk, although they are equally enjoyable plain.

Our green teas, floral blends, fruit blends, and botanical-style teas are generally best enjoyed plain, lightly sweetened, or with lemon where appropriate. We do not recommend adding milk to most green teas or fruit-forward blends.

Please check each product page for serving suggestions.

Yes. Many Malutar teas are excellent over ice, especially our fruit-forward Fusions and refreshing green tea blends.

To make iced tea, brew the tea as directed but with 2 tea bags, then pour over ice. Add cold water to taste if you prefer a lighter cup.

Store Malutar Tea in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, moisture, and strong odors.

Tea can absorb aromas from its surroundings, so we recommend keeping the tea in its original packaging and closing the box or inner pouch securely after opening.

Our CTC teas are best enjoyed within 2 years, and our orthodox teas are best enjoyed within 1 year. While tea may not spoil in the same way as many fresh foods, its aroma and flavor can become less expressive over time.
